How to Search Cases by Name
Start with the Nebraska JUSTICE one-time search. It covers criminal, civil, traffic, juvenile, and probate cases in all 93 counties. Just remember it searches parties, not witnesses. For a Boyd County matter, type the last name first. Do the results pile up with common names? Then add case type, county, court, or year. The live form asks you to accept its terms before Begin Search unlocks.
- Decide which court likely holds the Boyd County case. Traffic, misdemeanors, ordinances, small claims, probate, and preliminary felony matters point to County Court; district civil, domestic-relations, and post-bind-over felony matters point to District Court.
- Open JUSTICE, read the live terms and price, select the person or entity path when applicable, and enter the last name first.
- Use the first name, exact middle initial, suffix, Boyd County filter, year, court type, case type, judge, or attorney only if the available information is known and narrowing is needed.
- Submit the search, then compare each candidate's court, case number, case type, filing date, caption, party role, and judge before opening it.
- Open Case Detail and the Register of Actions for the matching record. Use the separate calendar tool to check a current date rather than treating the case result as a live calendar.
The official search material lists the controls and explains how results behave. Dropdown labels can shift over time. So the table sticks to what the official text itself describes.
| Field or control | Type | Required | Officially supported use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | Start here for a person | Searches a party, not a witness. |
| First Name | Text | Optional narrowing | Use after a broad last-name result when useful. |
| M | Text field | Optional | Middle initial must match precisely when supplied. |
| Suffix | Text field | Optional | Shown in the official demo with the name fields. |
| Person or entity | Selector | As applicable | The demo presents individual and entity choices. |
| County and case year | Selector | Optional narrowing | Boyd County and a known year can reduce common-name results. |
| Terms and Begin Search | Checkbox and button | Terms required | A no-result live search can still be charged. |
Boyd County Case Search Starts With a Party
JUSTICE is built around parties. A name can show up in testimony, on a witness list, or inside a narrative. That does not create a searchable party record. Run the last name first, then read the caption and party role with care. A result may carry a similar name but a different court, case type, or filing date. Do not assume it is the same Boyd County case.
This habit pays off when a person has several matters open at once. A single result list can mix County Court and District Court cases. Keep the court name attached to the case number. Then open a register or ask a clerk for the record.
The JUSTICE one-time search page shows the statewide entry point. It is the start for a Boyd County party search.
The screen is just the doorway. The court and party details inside a result are what actually pin down a Boyd County record.
How to Search Cases by Case Number
The one-time JUSTICE page searches by party name. Already hold the exact number? Nebraska.gov subscriber services can search by case number or judgment date instead. Boyd County publishes no official case-number format. So never invent a prefix or borrow a code from another court system. And never assume a preliminary-court number survives a bind-over as the district record number.
Copy the number exactly as the Boyd County notice, order, citation, or prior result prints it: Example only: case number printed on the Boyd County document. That reminder is about careful copying, not a claimed numbering pattern. If no number surfaces, run the party search and compare court, filing year, and caption.
Boyd County Case Search and the Thirty-Result Ceiling
The public one-time search returns up to 30 cases. A common surname can leave several plausible Boyd County matches, or hit the ceiling before the record you want ever loads. Start broad enough to catch spelling variations, then narrow by county, year, court, case type, judge, attorney, or other known facts. Do not guess at a middle initial just to shrink the list.
Results stick around for three calendar days. While a result is open, save the court, case number, type, filing date, caption, and status. If the list stays too wide, a subscriber search or the right clerk offers the next lawful step, since the first 30 names are never proof of a complete answer.
Note: A result ceiling is a search limit. It does not mean a party name has only thirty Boyd County cases.
What a Case Search Shows
Open a Boyd County JUSTICE result. You get several areas, not one full court file. Case Detail may list a trial date, outcome, description, and judge where available. Party Listing names the plaintiff, defendant, respondent, or other roles, and can show attorneys. Court Cost Information and payments sit in their own separate areas. The Register of Actions tracks case activity in order. Document images appear only when the record and access rules allow.
| Court and county | Confirms whether the record is Boyd County Court or Boyd District Court and therefore which clerk maintains it. |
|---|---|
| Case number and type | Distinguishes the record from similar names and identifies the court category; neither field alone states an outcome. |
| Caption and party listing | Shows the case style and role labels needed to compare a name result with the intended matter. |
| Filing date and status | Shows when the court record began and a high-level state of the case, not necessarily a current hearing date. |
| Register of Actions | Chronological filings, hearings, notices, orders, judgments, payments, and other events. |
| Images and financial areas | Available document images, Court Cost Information, and payment entries remain subject to availability and access limits. |
The Judicial Branch case-information page lists JUSTICE as a public access channel for Boyd County case information.
Treat the visible fields as a map. When the exact filed text matters, ask the right clerk for a copy.
Boyd County Case Detail and Register Areas
Each area answers a different question. Case Detail is the summary. Party Listing ties people and roles to the case. Court Cost Information and payments cover financial entries, but they do not collapse into one universal balance. The Register of Actions logs the sequence of events. A linked document image can help you read a filed paper, though an image is not a certified copy.
- Case Detail
- A portal summary that can include an outcome, trial date, description, and judge where the public view makes them available.
- Party Listing
- The part of the result that identifies party roles and may list attorneys; a listed name should be read with its role.
- Register of Actions
- The chronological list of filings and court events, not necessarily the complete file or the final wording of an order.
- Court Cost Information
- The result area for fees, costs, payments, and related entries; inspect the displayed context before drawing a conclusion.
- Available image
- A linked electronic document where access permits, distinct from clerk certification and not guaranteed for every record.
Boyd County Case Search Has a 24-Hour Lag
JUSTICE allows up to 24 hours of lag before a new entry appears. Its own calendar warns that same-day entry can never be promised. So an empty result means little by itself. A missing case, order, payment, or setting could stem from timing, a name misspelling, the wrong court level, an older file, a result cap, or access limits on the docket. It does not prove that no Boyd County court record exists.
Sort the failure into one of those buckets before concluding anything. Start with spelling and court selection, the two most common culprits. If the question is a current date, set the register beside the calendar and compare. When an image or older record will not load remotely, take the question to the clerk or a courthouse terminal instead of treating a failed online search as proof the court docket has nothing.
County vs Statewide Case Search
Boyd County runs no separate county case-index portal of its own. For remote searches, the statewide JUSTICE system is the public layer covering both Boyd County Court and Boyd District Court. The clerk and the terminal fill the local gaps. That terminal route helps with verification, older files, restricted-access questions, and record-copy procedures. Use both channels. Neither one replaces the other.
| Statewide JUSTICE search | Boyd County clerk and public terminal |
|---|---|
| Searches public trial-court cases across all 93 Nebraska counties and districts by party name. | Routes the request to the court that maintains the local Boyd County record. |
| Useful for an initial name search, court comparison, and available case detail or register review. | Useful for verification, older paper or archived material, certification, and lawful restricted-access questions. |
| Has a 24-hour entry lag, 30-result maximum, public-view limits, and possible image gaps. | Does not promise universal walk-in turnaround or access to sealed material barred by rule or law. |
| One-time page is party-name based; subscriber services add case-number and judgment-date options. | Requires the correct court, case number or identifying information, and the clerk's applicable copy procedure. |
Boyd County Case Search: One-Time or Subscriber
Two ways exist to pay for JUSTICE results. The live one-time page lists $17 per search, charged even when nothing turns up. An older Judicial Branch text put it at $15. Since those versions disagree, confirm the checkout amount before you pay. One-time results stay viewable for three calendar days, and the flow is built around party-name searching.
The Nebraska.gov subscriber service is a separate channel. Its 2026 fee notice sets $2 for full detail including images, while an older branch page listed $1 detail pricing plus a $100 annual subscription. Treat the older figures as history, not current rates. Subscribers can search by case number or judgment date. Either way, a paid view is still just a summary or image, never a certified court record.
The current Nebraska.gov subscriber-fee page shows the newer pricing that governs this Boyd County case-search option.
Check the source and date at the moment you pay. Official materials carry different prices from different eras.
Boyd County Case Search Fallback at the Counter
Article 8 puts public terminals in the courthouse during regular office hours. Turn to them, and to the clerk. Do so whenever a result looks old, incomplete, restricted, or simply uncertain.
The clerk maintains the actual court record behind the docket screen. Copies and certified copies move through the applicable clerk process. A record may need more than the public display. In that case, the Nebraska CC 3:29 request route applies.
Boyd County Court Clerk
Kami Hooey maintains County Court records for matters such as traffic, misdemeanors, probate, small claims, ordinances, and preliminary felony proceedings.
402-360-0814
Boyd County District Court Clerk
Tracy Reiser maintains District Court records for post-bind-over felony, district civil, and domestic-relations matters.
402-775-2391
Give the clerk the court, the case number, the case name, the document, and the date if you know it. Staff can explain the lawful channel, but they cannot hand over material restricted by statute, rule, or sealing order.
Boyd County Cases After a Felony Bind-Over
A felony may start with a preliminary hearing. The hearing takes place in Boyd County Court, and the case can then move to Boyd District Court after bind-over. That transfer is a docket event, nothing more. The original county-court record does not vanish when the case moves. The procedural path may be unclear. Then search both court levels by party, case number, and filing year. Keep each court's number and register separate until the records show the link between them.
Court-date research follows the same rule. A County Court preliminary setting and a later District Court setting can involve the same matter. Yet the two may sit in different dockets. The court holding the current stage controls this. It decides which clerk you call and which calendar you check. The courts publish no cross-reference format tying bind-over or appeal case numbers together.
Boyd County Case Search Limits and Certified Records
A case summary, a Register of Actions entry, or an available image helps you spot public court activity. That is all it does. It is not a certified copy. It is not a complete archived file, a transcript, or proof of every term in an order. Where formal wording matters, ask the clerk for the exact document through the copy and certification process. Images can be absent for many reasons: restricted access, no conversion, or simply no online availability.
The CM/ECF source belongs to the federal courts. It sits outside Nebraska's state trial-court route for a Boyd County case.
It adds no Boyd County state-court record data. The CourtListener source likewise sits outside the official Nebraska state-court path.
Use JUSTICE, the public terminal, or the right clerk for any Boyd County court docket.
Restricted Cases and Access Rules
Public access has limits. Boyd County has no separate juvenile court. Most juvenile matters run through County Court under special confidentiality rules. Some records are not ordinary search gaps. That list covers juvenile records, sealed adult records, protected identifiers, presentence reports, and anything else restricted by law, rule, or court order. A redacted or blank field never licenses an attempt to rebuild protected content.
For an open public record, Article 8 and Nebraska's electronic-record rule back access through the portal or a clerk terminal, within the rules. For a sealed or restricted matter, ask the clerk. Request the procedural route and the governing rule, not the protected substance. The subject-only sealed-copy route and other lawful court procedures sit apart from an ordinary public case lookup.
